There are people who do great work, and then there are people who make everyone around them better. CNB Bank's June Employee of the Month, Jo Anne Smith, is both.
Jo Anne is a Personal Banker III at our Hedgesville branch, where she has spent nearly seven of her approximately 20 years in banking. In that time, she has built the kind of relationships with customers and colleagues that don't happen overnight. They're built through consistency, genuine care, and showing up the same way every single day.
A Teammate Like No Other
Jo Anne's nomination didn't come from a single standout moment. It came from something harder to define and more meaningful to witness: the way she shows up for her team, day in and day out.
"Jo Anne never misses an opportunity to show up for her team, not just in the work she does, but also in her support for us," her nominator wrote. "She's always recognizing contributions, celebrating wins, and lifting people up. She makes all of us feel valued and encouraged. That kind of consistency doesn't go unnoticed and makes a real impact on our team culture."
That is the kind of teammate every workplace hopes to have.
A Philosophy Worth Living
Jo Anne's approach to her work is rooted in something deeper than banking. "I am a firm believer that God put us here to love people and to be His hands extended," she said. "It costs nothing to be kind, say an encouraging word, or to do a good deed."
That philosophy comes through in everything she does, from the way she greets customers to the way she supports the people working alongside her. After nearly two decades in banking, that warmth hasn't dimmed one bit.
"We have built a lot of great relationships here with our customers," Jo Anne added. "I love the CNB family too. We are part of an amazing family."
A Little Fun at Home
Outside of the bank, Jo Anne is part of a family with a pretty unique claim to fame. Her husband and son are fourth and fifth generation beekeepers, specializing in pollination, honey, and related products, as well as swarm removals.
Jo Anne is quick to clarify her role in the operation: "I do all the behind the scenes work. I don't do bugs!"
